Controversy Erupts Over School Proposal to Teach Kids to Fight Back Against Gunmen

The plan proposed is going to be a implemented as a last option in the case of an emergency. It refers to teaching 10 year olds to fight back, which I feel is ludicrous. However it could be beneficial in the upper grades. Those in favor of the proposal do not want the children to "try and be heroes" but only to defend themselves if there is no other means of safety.

Jesse Jackson Jr. Denies Wrongdoing in Governor's Corruption Case

Rev. Jesse Jackson denies any involvement in the Governor of Illinois scheme to fill the Senate seat that previously belonged to Obama. The main issue in the case is that the Governor was willing to accept payment in order for an individual to get the seat. Of course it is easy to see why this is not only illegal but ethically wrong.

Math teacher sells ad space on test

A math teacher actually sold ad space on his students tests. The budget couldn't afford the expenses of paper and other supplies, so he decided to create ad space. For twenty to thirty dollars you can put an ad on studients test papers. I do not know what I am more amazed at, the economy being so bad to allow something like this to go on or the fact that the teacher even thought of doing it and people actually buying it. I just want to say I give Obama alot of creadit because he has his work cut out for him to try to fix the economy.

Homeless dog saves injured dog in traffic.

In Santiago Chilie a homless dog pulled another injured dog through a heavily traffic road to save another dog that was injured. This story seems small and cute, but since this class I think about things differently. This story proves the compation for other humans/spiecies is ingrained in out bodys. It is an inate quality and people are born with it. I think that it is amazing that a dog demonstrated such a human quality.

Health groups: Unknown thousands dying in Zimbabwe

Thousands of people in Zimbabwe are dying right now. They do not have addiquit facilities to help the sick. The hospitals are shutting down, the drugs are running out of supply and they have no valid solution. In my opinion people need to take a more utilitarian view and start doing what is best for everyone. People are dying in Zimbabwe while people in America are ridding around in 500, 000 dollar cars. Someone should help!

Riots in Greece

Civilians were rioting in the streets of Greece because a young teen age boy was shot in killed by a police officer for no vailid reason. In the riots people were hurt and stores were robbed. Isn't that hypocritical to protest against violence and then cause damage and distruction.

Teens Charged with abuse in Nursing home

I thought this artical was interesting. Two young girls 18 and 19 years old were accused of taunting, groping and spittting on som of the old people in the nursing home. They worked there part time and harrassed the patients sometimes taunting them so bad to cause them to scream. What is wrong with those girls they need to get punished.

OJ Simpson

This is a topic that everyone is fimiliar with. OJ was sentenced to a minimum of 9 years in prision for various assults and kidnapping charges. Some people think that the judge might have given him a harsher sentence then he would have gotten, if he did not get off so easy for the murder of his x wife Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

U.S. pharmaceutical companies are finding clever ways to avoid the consequences of a 1996 law that mandates their exclusion from federal health care programs such as Medicare and Medicaid if they are convicted of felony health care fraud. Since the drug companies are so rich, they are settling out of court and not getting convicted of the crime. If a law is in place to fix a problem and a company can circumvent the law should we change the law?

Business overcharged for phone calls

In this artical I read it explains how telecom is producing faulty bills to companies. 80 percent of companies are over charged due to billing errors and telecom is reaping the benifits. Companies do not take as much time that is nesseccary to look for mistakes on their bills. Is the faulty bills done on purpose? That can not be proven, but it I had to guess I am sure the mistakes are overcharges not undercharges.

Embracing Recession

America has been in a recession since December and it feels like it has been a long time coming. Stocks and realastate are at all time lows. The ability for people to create and spend money is extremily low. Automobile company's excpecially are begging the government for a bailout. What bothers me is who is to blame. Should the government take responsibility and admit it was their fault or should the blame be on greedy capitalist.

Phil Class

I just wanted to say that this class has made me think outside the box. In the book their are case studies that I thought were cut and dry situations, but since disscussing them in class I see the issues from a different perspective. For example I never thought a business downsizing had any moral or ethical value. Also the poverty in America, I always thought that it was because people were lazy, but society plays a big role.

Mark Cuban charged with insider trading

The article makes a good point regarding why Cuban would risk what he did considering the potential poss would be almost meaningless to him. Of course insider trading has many ethical issues that we have previously discussed in class. Like the article says Im the sure the fine that Cuban is likely to get will have little to no impact on his financial position, simply because he has so much, but could hurt his reputation in future endeavors.

Supporting self-interest

I think the Obama campaing acted in an amoral way in which they used the quote to promote self interest. This kind of supports the "Myth of Amoral Business" in a sense that they were simply promoting self-interest.

In today's news all you hear about is negative ethical behavior in business. This artical I found demistrates good eithical behavior. Yosemite has a non profit organizataion that raises money for charities it also gives jobs to inner city youth to help them develope skills and training they can use in the real world.

Black Church Sues to Close 'Redneck Shop'

I dont agree with the merchandise that the store sells but I can't see any legal reason why the store should be closed. Of course it offends a lot of people but there are numerous other stores that offen people as well. This store just seems to push the envelope a little farther than most.
